1. Estimation of Aircraft Mass

Estimating aircraft wing area is first thing that allows you to define the rest of the geometry of the aircraft. However, you generally need an estimate of mass to determine your wing area. If you are building functional UAV which has a specific purpose this section makes an intial estimate of aicraft total mass based on your payload, endurance and range requirements.

2. Estimation of Aircraft Wing Area

An estimate of the aircraft wing area is calculated in this section based in the total aircraft mass estimate in the previous section.

3. Estimation of Aircraft Drag and Cruise Thrust

In order to determine the thrust required to power your aircraft you need to determine drag.

4. Estimation of VTOL Thrust and Rotor Area

The purpose behind this step is to estimate your required rotor or propeller radius, diameter.

5. Estimation of Battery Power and Capacity for Range and Endurance

In this stage you work the battery capacity for required for aircraft range and endurance.

6. Estimation of Stabilising and Control Surface Areas

Now that wing area is known you can work out the rest of the aircraft geometry.
